The band began as I was taking my final recording class in college. My group wanted to produce some metalcore songs for the final project. I brought in some heavier guitar riffs to build around, but struggled to come up with any lyrics. One of the other guys in the project suggested his friend Ryan from outside the college as a potential writer, and right away our styles blended perfectly. Our first session in the studio, his screams just blew me away, and the words he wrote had so much depth and raw emotion. From that moment, I knew that his vocals would take my music to the next level.
I met Reese in the middle of writing our first album, and quickly discovered how talented this guy is. We kind of slipped into some recording projects together, as well as some church music. Before getting him on board with The First Cliché, I helped him produce Lament for his group No Less Days. Reese is a phenomenal guitarist, but what really stood out to me was his voice. This guy can bring some serious energy to a track, and he'll hit any note you ask him to.
I'm the primary instrumental writer for The First Cliché. I started out as a drummer, but I was heavily influenced by bands like Architects, Polaris and Silent Planet as I was getting into guitar. Most of my songs come from an initial guitar riff, or a cool drum groove, and then I build choruses and breakdowns around that. More than anything, I strive to produce songs that fully demonstrate my passions, but leave room for Ryan and Reese to intensify with what's in their hearts.
